The Kenmar Story

Our founder, Ken Elliott, was always driven to “Be the Best.”  It is on this guiding principle that Kenmar was started and continues to operate today. Ken Elliott came to Detroit in 1939 on a football scholarship to the University of Detroit. He graduated in 1947 after interrupting his education for a stint as a WWII, US Navy fighter pilot in the South Pacific. Ken worked diligently, successfully advancing his career and contacts in the automotive industry. His entrepreneurial spirit and ambition led him to found Kenmar Corporation in 1961. Starting with a small office in the Fisher building, Ken would grow Kenmar to eventually employ over 100 people in 5 countries. This team pioneered much of the global supply strategy that is common place in the industry today. Ken was careful to instill a sense of family in his employees and customers. The traditions and values started by Ken still remain today.  Our team is commonly referred to as the “Kenmar family” among employees, clients, friends and family.

Today, Kenmar remains a privately owned, family company. The next generation of Kenmar is committed to Ken’s original vision to “Be the Best.” We look to the future, seeking new market development and the best opportunities for our clients. We do all this while keeping integrity and loyalty at the forefront of these relationships.
